While I think it's kinda gross to go through garbage to find food, they have a very good point that a lot of perfectly good stuff is thrown away these days.
Mind you the concept isn't new. In a Dicken's novel there is a character who is very rich from 'dust' - which is he sold stuff he found in the garbage heaps.
