This is a community service announcement that Mic Conway's National Junk Band are going to be at the Burwood Festival on Sept 17th
I don't know who else but miss saggy drawers will be interested, so this way I don't miss anyone.
I like the festival mainly for the look of glee on MrNws face at the model boats. Oh yes, Mouse and I will be sitting under the tree with a thermos of tea and some sandwiches in our old age whilst MrNw and Topsy mess about with their boats. It's true.
Anyhoo, he's on at 12:35 and 2:45.
Who's with me?

Me!! (except Mr Snerg is not allowed to be shown the model boats or anything like it)
unless.... are there model sailboats too?
Resistance is futile, Meg.
Sounds like a hoot.
We can even fire up the thermos and picnic blankets but we still have to buy the greek honey cake things.
OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!
Sigh
I have to be in Newcastle that weekend
POUT!!
and POOOT!
And sucks arse!
But thanks for thinking of me!
Oh Meg, When we're old, I'll bring the sandwiches, Mouse the tea and you the coffee.
It really is inevitable.
I think there was a sailboat or two. Not too sure though, my eyes glaze over too quickly.
fan-tastic. I love anything which resembles a school fete. and this is close enough... as long as there are homemade sweeties and/or jam to be bought.
you know, I was only just saying to mum the other week that I really miss Lucky Dips. so exciting, even if the thing you get is crap. or maybe that's an intrinsic part of it.
as for Mic Conway, I confess I like Jim (brother) better, but I don't think he plays with the Junk Band much any more. his MS is getting too bad. but he still occasionally plays with the Backsliders, who are teh hawt when it comes to bluesy slide guitary* goodness. dear lord they're a bit good.
*not western slide guitar goodness. believe me, there is much difference.
aww, isn't there always the good with the bad?
the good: the Backsliders are playing the Vanguard next friday night. let's go! a gig, ooh I haven't been to one of those in a long time.
the bad: Jim has left the Backsliders to concentrate on another band. but there's still Rob Hirst to lust over. yay! and of course Dom Turner. musically, they're both a bit impressive actually!
I have no idea who you're talking about. I know, I am ashamed of ,my lack of knowledge and should hang my head in shame!
you don't know who Rob Hirst is?
and you call yourself a full-blooded lusty woman ;)
Jim Conway = Mick's brother. interntaionally reknown harmonica player and often cranky MS sufferer
Rob Hirst = drummer from Midnight Oil. slightly industrially deaf all-round perfect gentleman
Dom Turner = very very very very good blues guitarist and also very nice.
but I'm sure you know what a Lucky Dip is ;)
Me! Pick me! I like a good Junk Band set, ever since Miss Baggy Trousers took me to a Mic Gig a few years ago. Which session are we planning on going to?
Since Fitz doesn't like fairs of any sort, then I think I am safe on the old age model boat thing. Unless someone tells him... in which case I'll bring the jam slice
I wouldn't see the Backsliders without Jim. I think he makes them. Sure, they're great musos, but it's just not the same.
He's not so cranky!!
Yes they do have remote control sailboats. They even have a powered tug-boat to retrieve the sailboats if they get stuck upwind.
oh Baggy, someone who knows what I'm talking about :)
I know, I'm conflicted too. Jim really adds a certain something to the Sliders. he is a mighty dood.
and no, he's not too cranky - I actually think he looks more distracted/frustrated sometimes than anything else. maybe it's the MS, in fact it prob'ly is. but did you see a doco on him on the ABC a few years ago? he certainly has his cranky/irritated moments. he doesn't suffer fools gladly.
Mr Nw - the tug boat makes all even more nerdy and endearing :)
hmm since tehre are sailboats I think you'll find Mr Snerg brings the coffee and I'll be down at the lake.
I shall have to alternate. because boats are good, and so is tea under the tree :)
I hate to disapoint you young feminists, but i don't thnk that 'model boat fanciers r us' allows ladies in. It's like the masons. We would only corrupt their sacred spaces with our womanly urges. No, it's best for all if we women folk, do useful things, like make sandwiches and cups of tea for our big, brave and clever waterfaring men.
oh come now, if we took a plate of sandwiches and acted really coy, I'll bet they'd be lining up to show us their poop decks.
I'm just a Conway fancier myself.
I hear ya, speedy.
Just make sure tree, tea and sandwiches are all within easy viewing of the ships and they don't need to know that we get the best of both worlds.
They are great to watch, and the one with the water cannon that soaks the kids near the shore is really popular. I just hope the water is coming from an internal reserviour and not the green stuff from out of the lake...
(one of the boats also carries a tank which gets a run around on the lake shore sometimes)
and if Mr Tops leaves us the telescope we can wear eye patches, go arrr a lot, and then plunder their booty when they're all pooped out.
because there's nothing like a spot of single entendre.
Hey! I can come!! I canned the Newwy thing!
Who wants to make eyes at the violinist with me?
Poot to your boats - there's dancin' to be done!!
Okay, the plan is to meet at our house at midday. we will then walk to fair, purchase luncheon, see band, get greek sweeties and watch boats. how does this sound to everyone??
(yay for being able to join us, BT)
it sounds very, very good.
I might invite the Delightful Nanna to come so she can go home with the Dinghy at some point ;-)
Give me a call when you leave your place and Tops and I will meet you at the park (since we live closer to the park in the opposite direction)
I was thinking of coming round to your place, Mouse, and walking down with you. that orright?
Sounds orright to me.
(note to self and household... put pants on before midday on sunday)
ehehheh... pants.
