All Things Birthday

I have had a very deightful birthdayness.

There has been Laaadies afternoon tea with fizzy pink wine

There has been cupcakes with bright pink icing and a no. 3 candle

There has been beautiful cards and theatre tickets and cushions-in-the-making and flowers and new headsets and babysitting and coffee and pastries and dumplings and mexican hot chocolate from Melbourne and bucks nights to visit and all sorts of things to make a girl feel happy and loved and well and truly birthdayified.

And there is still the barefoot bowling to go to on Sunday.

Yay!!

A Letter to My Body

Dear Body,

Thanks for being big and stretchy enough to carry a child to full (and slighly over) term. Although if we ever do it again, can you not let the legs get so swollen that I couldn't walk more than a metre before the pain set in?
Thanks for getting me through these 31 years.
Thanks for being strong enough to survive everything I've put you through.
Thanks for the bosoms that have a nice swell and weight to them.
Thanks for also letting those bosoms provide milk for my child for a little while.
Thanks for having nice bits to help balance out the manky bits. I am fond of the buttocks and lower leg but we can lose the stomach and the upper arms any time now.
You may not be perfect or the ideal body, but on the whole, you've served me well.

a weekend of girlyness

Between the hens night on Saturday (delightfully dumb games, pyjamas and chick flicks) and my Laaadies afternoon tea today for my birthday, I am feeling like quite the girl.

A very scary thought indeed

More on rituals

We have a morning ritual here. I wake up and get out of bed when Torby first registers his displeasure with being awake (waaah!).
We exchange greetings (me - 'good morning beautiful boy' him- 'iss mum..shh dad sleeping') and I get a cuddle and a kiss.
We make breakfast. He holds the weetbix box for the one cereal and helps get the milk and two fruits container out of the fridge then I chop-chop it all together so he can walk carefully to his seat and eat.
We watch tv until Nw's alarm goes off at which point it's time to run to the room and 'see dad'. Bouncing on the bed and squigglying about ensue.
The boys then go and have Showertime! (the grabbing of the towels, the washing of the hair and bodies, the brushing of the teeth)
At which point I either curl up in bed for a beautiful 20minutes of quiet or get his lunch ready (depending on if it's a daycare day or not).
Get dressed (Torby help!)
and then either we kiss dad bye-bye (dad work) or I get the kisses bye-bye and off he goes to Alka's.
I love our morning routine. It's a nice time that's filled with cuddles and cuteness and order (as much as anyone can hope for with a toddler) and it has become a ritual of sorts.

The ritual of taking a friend wedding dress shopping yesterday was a hoot. Miss J needs to learn to lie a bit better but Charlie and I more than made up for that. There were many dresses sampled with only one truly hideous one (too many floppy flowers and floaty wispy bits of spare fabric attached to the skirt) and a lot of nice ones (mind you, that girl and her tiny waist really could look good in a paper sack). There was much giggling and chatting and we even had time for a glass or two of wine at the end.

I'm looking forward to having all of my birthday celebrations soon. Laaadies afternoon tea on Sunday, cake at Fight Club on Tuesday and a bbq or bowls club adventure next Sunday. We're going out to dinner on the actual day (Wednesday) but it doesn't count as it's for a cath-up with a Melbourne warcrack lass who is in town.

Having all of this woven around the celebration of J and scruffy getting married (inc hens night and bucks night) makes it even nicer. All these celebrations one after the other. I will be tired but happy at the end of it all I suspect.

tee-hee

Little Gamers

Rituals

Today I'm meeting two friends in town to go wedding dress shopping for one of them. She gets married in a few weeks and ,thankfully, already has her dress. We are inulging in the ritual of dress shopping because we feel that it's an important way to celebrate. An act of true girlyness.
There will be much squeeing and pretending she is our barbie doll and like the true friends we are, we will endevour to find the most atrocious dress ever and make her wear it.

And then there will be the champagne!

Monkey See, Monkey Do

It was very hard to keep a straight face yesterday when Torby threw himself to the ground and kicked his legs about howled about the injustice of the world and Miss P looked at him, lay down, threw her legs a bit and giggled. T'was desperatly amusink. Torby didn't appreciate the mockage though... he'll get used to it one day.

Sorry

It was a fairly momentous thing to watch Kevin Rudd deliver his Sorry speech to Parliament today. Such a long time overdue and I'm very happy that my government had the guts and compassion to do it.

"For the pain, suffering and hurt of these Stolen Generations, their descendants and for their families left behind, we say sorry.

To the mothers and the fathers, the brothers and the sisters, for the breaking up of families and communities, we say sorry.

And for the indignity and degradation thus inflicted on a proud people and a proud culture, we say sorry."
About fucking time!

ugh

i am a big ball of snottiness

ugh

my weekend by Miss DV aged 30 and a half

So, Friday night saw us at Meg and Jamies with the idea in mind that we would have lovely family dinner, kids would do their thing (running so fast!) and then Torby would actually go to sleep there rather than being a big horrid child and making us leave at about 9 when the mankiness got to much...well, it worked!

Okay, Bellabel had to be moved to sleep in the other room with Lumpelina because Torby was making scary noises (i.e. sucky his dummy) but still, it worked! We got to loiter around till late and even play a game and have dessert and stuff. Just like real people get to!

Saturday was Iron Maiden (for Nw) and Finn and Mr C's last pizza Night (for me). Was lovely to catch up with people esp. nice to see MissJ and I even got to be a pizza wench for a bit. Had a hoot and eventualy got to bed about midnight. Never a good plan when you have to up bright and early to run an event the next day.

Which does in fact bring us to Sunday. The day of the 'How to run an event' Bunch O' Classes.
Despite various timetable changes at the very last moment, was mostly stress free and in fact kinda fun and I'm hoping useful and helpful to people. I really do enjoy co-ordinating BoC's and need to do more of them. They are normally a slightly different format (more rooms and thus more classes and no theme) but I always wanted them to be about getting interested people all together and bombarding them with knowledge. It's also much nicer to be organising the classes rather than having to teach one. God I hate public speaking. I also vote that next time I do one, I won't be hungover and at the end of a weekend.

Anyway, enough of the timeline of my weekend. Go forth and enjoy your Monday. I have a day off and some 'Weeds' to watch and coffee to have and mmm some sleep to catch up on.

Thursday, 7 February 2008

As I was drifting off into sleepy bobo land for the oh so important afternoon nap, the sky was bright blue and sunny, I'm awoken all of half an hour later by the massive thunderstorm that seems to actually shake the house a bit.

All very dramatic.

Oh the glamour of my day

Munchkin awake for 3hrs and has gone through 3 pairs of knickers.

Toilet training is a very exotic and glamorous process that doesn't involve having to wash endless pants and couch or seat covers.

Duckies!

Oh the cuteness

to the girl two desks over..

If you walk away to a meeting and don't save your work (it's that little button what looks like a disk in the top righthand area) and someone comes along and shuts down your computer, you don't get to go on a rampage against them because you weren't clever enough to push the save button before you walked away from your desk for 2hrs.

Just sayin'.
