Notes from my Monday

Getting myself ready in the morning for work, takes a lot less time than it does to get myself and Nw and Torby ready.

Starting work at 9:30am is really weird for me. I normally start at about 7. Half the day was over before I checked my first email. I also seem to need more coffee to get through the day. 3rd cup and counting.

It’s really annoying when the report you’re meant to work on isn’t ready last week like promised but instead will be maybe possibly done by Wednesday and I normally only work on Mon/Tues. Luckily, the t’riffic Grandma can look after him so I can swap Tues for Friday.

The Walking Boot O’ Doom makes me walk funny because it’s so ginormous. However, wearing my fabulous pointy knee-high boot of loveliness on the other foot helps by putting both feet at same height (you know what I mean). Also good that the one that needs a new heel put on it is the left one. Really should fix that so I can wear both of them when my foot is better.

Having a chat with an up-the-duff friend about childcare has made me realise how grateful I am that Torby goes to a good daycarer. He loves his A and she seems to love him as well as do both her daughters. It’s this extra family unit he’s growing up with. The fact that she’d raised two kids already (the youngest is just finishing high school I think) and then has spent the last 15years looking after 5 kids every day means that she’s a freaking sadist learnt to manage kids pretty well. He enjoys going there every week. He enjoys seeing the other kids and being spoilt by the two daughters and going on adventures. Makes me a bit sad to think that one day he’ll stop going to her and go to school instead. Pesky children and their nasty habit of growing up! Sending them off to be looked after by someone else is such a leap of faith. Glad ours worked out.
I think Torby is getting scared at night. Last night we were repeatedly woken by him crying out. Nw would get up and go into his room, settle him down again, come back to bed and then a few seconds/minutes later, he would cry out again. A lot of it was delaying tactics and he answered ‘yes’ when I asked him if he was a bit scared. I offered to sit with him for a little bit while he lay down in his cot. He was eventually happy with the idea of me leaving the door open to his room when I left to go back to bed. Will see what happens tonight.

I'm looking forward to going home soon. I forget how much my foot hurts after a day of not lying on the couch popping chocolates into my mouth. Need to drug myself up and close my eyes for a second I think.

Time to stop procrastinating and do a final bit of work before I get to scurry out of here. *long drawn out sigh*

mimicry

This afternoon, Torby popped his foot in a box and started walking around with his 'big shoe' on his broken foot.
Just like mum.
However, unlike my foot, kissing it better worked really fast.

evil red button

After drinking a wee smidge more than was good for me last night and staying up a wee bit later than is recomended, this website is about all that my brain is up for.

Mornings

Torby has taken to climbing out of his cot, opening his door, running down the hall yelling 'hello mummy, hello daddy' and climbing into bed with us of a morning.

It's not such a bad way to wake up really.

it's not a snot, it's a snot monster!

so many tissues, so little breathing.

On happier note, I hobbled about in the sunshine today, went down to post office and thoroughly enjoyed the warm sunniness of it all.

Have also dicovered this site. As someone who can't complete a full paragraph, this really works for me. It's nice to put a thought to paper (well, you know) and not have to complete it.

ow, any of you that stil harbour some delusion that I'm not a warcarcknerd, stop reading now. We wouldn't want to shatter your illusions..

Started an arena team in warcrack with the lovely miss kat. it's the 2 of us against a random 2 person team and you fight 10 battles a week. Was fast (because we die really quickly) and kinda fun. We even won a battle. It's a very different style of play.

In comparison, joined a group to do a raid with a bunch of random peoples this afternoon. My god, who let the 12yr olds with no manners near the keyboard. Such a lot of bitching and moaning and no concept of politeness or how to deal with other people. I can see why people have been turned off playing wow. I just want to slap them all.

Now I should prolly get off my arse and go accomplish something today.

I leave you with a photo of a very young snolliver in a tigger suit. Just because I can.

Finally remembered to take photo of cunning mugzzz' lap doiley (colours much better in real life)

Tomorrow there will be a hobble to post office and making of sausage rolls. Or so the theory goes.

pouty mcpoutpout

Due to pesky flight cancellations and reschedulings. I will not be spending the afternoon and evening hanging with my sister and family before they fly back to Shanghai.

This here is my pouty sad face.

sometimes, the really simple things are the bestest.

Torby and I spent a delightful 10minutes this morning perched on the back step watching a man mow next-door's lawn. The excitement and glee on Torby's face was kinda priceless.

How to tell that you overdid it yesterday;

...you have to call up the beloved husband at work and ask him to come home soonish as your foot hurts quite a bit because you would like to take some drugs (which knock me out) please.

How to tell that you have a lovely husband;

.. he comes home

Love you my love

Mwah!

First day back at work since the foot incident

Reasons why I prefer being at home to being at work

home has a couch
home has a heater and blankies to keep me snuggy warm
home has a cat to amuse me
at home I can lie on aforementioned couch reading and watching dvd's
at home I can play lots of warcrack
at home I can wear a tshirt and tracky-daks
at home I have varoious Gtalk and MSN so I can annoy my friends. I had to resort to emailing people this morning.

Reasons why work is okay..

the coffee from the cafe down the road
ummm, access to stationery supplies
ummmm, there must be something else...I'm sure it'll come to me
Oh I remember now.

They pay me.

i is all grownded-up now

I made shepherds pie last night for the first time ever. It's such a grown up thing to make.

It even tasted good.

My big sister even showed me mum's trick of smooshing the top with a fork to give it extra crispy bits (more effective if their gas oven ever browned things) thus making it a family secret handed down through the generations. kinda. sorta.

I found the recipe here

phrase of the day is..

... "Oliver, get your hand out of your pants!"

The favourite resting place of his hand seems to be wedged down the back of his nappy.

someone elses child!

my cool thing for the day...

... having a delightful chat this morning with the 3yr old niece  on the phone.

Most of the sentences even made sense!

Lovely lazy Sundays

Have spent a delightful day hanging with family and chums.

My sister Nic was in town for a few hours so we gathered and went to the markets (I hobbled around on the manky foot like a trooper) and then returned to m&j's house for tea and baked markety goods. (Mmmmm baked goods)
Scored a new bag and some dvd's (yay for sister's what live in China), the children scored some tres cute silk jammies and we all scored some catch-up time.

Loved the synchronicity (I know such big words) of our sister being in town at same time as Jamie's brother being in town. Such familiness. Makes me happy.

Had big afternoon naps then dropped in on mugzz and smurg where I scored more Buffy episodes, some Veronica Mars and a fabulous lap blanky that she knitted with wool I got from some markets ages ago that's all hand dyed and spun. Great autumnally colours. We are time- sharing the blanky. Will take a photo when I can find my camera again.

Had really really yummy roast beef ninner. Was made from happy-dancing-organic cow. Soooooo good.

Now watching some more Buffy and will play some warcrack and wait for the piankillers to kick in (I probably shouldn't have done so much hobbling today - worth it though)

who doesn't love a fairy skirt and butterfly wings??

Queen size beds are not big enough to comfortably fit 2 adults, a cat and a squirmy toddler.

Fun though and a nice way to spend a few minutes in the morning.

The bedside clock is fascinating for Torby...all those numbers and they keep changing. What more could a boy ask for??

Life is better and less wah-wah now :)

...my mum died of cancer (4/6/88)

I still miss her.

I wish I had have been older when it happened so then I would have had more time with her. I wish my memories were clearer. I wish I still didn't get upset about it. I wish I hadn't had 20yrs of saying 'It's okay...I'm mostly over it'

I'm glad I spent the evening at Meg's house drinking and playing dumb games with family. It felt appropriate. It felt right. I'd already had my cry. I didn't want to be alone or even just with Nw. I needed my sister there. I needed to see all te kids ther and get hugs and kisses from them. I neede all the love that was in that house to wash over me and make it better.

And now, I need to go to bed and wake up happier and less self-indulgent.

G'Night

i sense a theme

Have spent the day watching Buffy (Megzz sees my crippling as a great chance to evil me to the ways of Buffy) and reading the Carrie Vaughn novel 'Kitty Goes To Washington' (thanks JD)

Such supernaturalism (yes, it's a word)
